Being a Kid

During last weekend when we were out and about at the outdoor market, we went into downtown to the cafe to have a little fika (fika is a very important word to Swedes and there is really no good translation for it in English, coffee break or snack time just doesn't cut it because it is more than that. When a person "fikas" in Sweden, you take a break and have coffee or tea, or in our case juice or something else to drink. Then you have a sandwich and/or a pastry or goodie with it. Some people fika every day, others every weekend or just every now and then.) So on our way to the cafe, there is usually this little fountain with water so the kids and I headed over to take a look at it while Andreas got some money from the ATM. When we got there, the pond was empty and it was full of leaves. What kid (or adult) doesn't love to run and jump through the fall leaves? Oscar couldn't help himself and was running amok. I didn't realize that underneath the leaves was a big thick pile of mud. Hey, his shoes got a little muddy, but his heart got a good dose of what autumn is all about.
